Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) announced on Tuesday that its load management measures have ended, with officials pledging uninterrupted and quality power supply through efficient system operation.
Iesco spokesman Raja Asim said there is currently no shortage of electricity in the region, with the national grid station supplying the required power. He said electricity demand and supply are being continuously monitored following the restoration of normal operating conditions.
The spokesman said ensuring continuity of electricity supply to consumers across the Iesco region remains the top priority for the company management. He added that Iesco is committed to providing reliable and uninterrupted power supply through efficient system operation, preventive maintenance, continuous network monitoring, and prompt restoration of supply during unforeseen outages.
Addressing the load-shedding reported on June 29 and 30 and from July 1 to July 5, Raja Asim said the country experienced an unprecedented heatwave that caused exceptionally high electricity demand and placed extraordinary stress on the power distribution network. This forced the company to begin scheduled load management wherever necessary according to system requirements, he said.
He said some temporary interruptions also occurred due to emergent technical faults caused by excessive loading of the distribution system. These faults included failure of distribution transformers, burning or loosening of jumpers, and faults in underground power cables caused by excessive electrical loading, high temperatures, and moisture.
In such situations, emergency permit to work shutdowns became necessary to safely repair or replace damaged equipment and restore supply as quickly as possible, he said.
The spokesman said that in Rawalpindi city, where several 11kV overhead feeders are installed on shared pole structures and multiple underground feeders share common cable trenches and manholes, isolating a faulty feeder often required temporary shutdown of adjacent healthy feeders.
He said this step was taken to ensure the safety of maintenance personnel and facilitate repair work, adding that such shutdowns are purely technical and safety related and should not be interpreted as load management.
Raja Asim said Iesco regrets the inconvenience caused to consumers during this period and appreciates their patience and cooperation. He said the company remains committed to strengthening the distribution system and providing safe, reliable, and efficient electricity services across its service territory.
