The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has decided to increase the average hydel power tariff by 98 paisa per unit for the fiscal year 2025-26.
The decision has been sent to the federal government for approval.
According to the decision issued by the regulator in Islamabad, the new average hydel tariff has been set at Rs 4.81 per unit, up from the previous rate of Rs 3.83 per unit.
WAPDA Member Finance Naveed Asghar confirmed the revised tariff figures, stating that the increase reflects updated calculations for the current fiscal year.
The tariff hike will come into effect once the federal government issues a formal notification approving NEPRAs decision.
Earlier this week, NEPRA approved a Rs0.3364 per unit fuel cost adjustment for May 2026, adding an estimated Rs4.2 billion burden on electricity consumers, with the increase taking effect in July bills.
The new adjustment replaces the Rs1.19 per unit fuel charge for the month of June, meaning the average fuel cost in July will be around four paise per unit lower than June.
The adjustment applies to K-Electric and ex-WAPDA distribution company consumers, excluding lifeline users, prepaid consumers, and electric vehicle charging stations, under the monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism.
