A high-level committee has started reviewing the performance and affairs of the National Information Technology Board (NITB). The committee was formed on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Its first meeting focused on institutional reforms and better operational performance.
Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Malik chaired the meeting. Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja also attended. The secretary of the Establishment Division and NITB chief executive officer were also present. Several other senior government officials joined the meeting.
During the session, officials briefed the committee on NITB’s overall performance and institutional affairs. They also shared updates on steps taken to improve the board’s operations. The committee was informed about 27 directives issued to strengthen NITB’s performance. These directives also aim to improve its operational structure and institutional governance.
The members reviewed progress on these directives and discussed ways to speed up the reform process. They also examined proposals to strengthen NITB’s institutional capacity. In addition, the committee discussed ways to streamline the board’s administrative and operational functions. These changes could help NITB better support the government’s digital transformation plans.
The participants also discussed further steps to improve efficiency. They stressed the need for effective implementation of the prime minister’s directives. The committee decided to hold another meeting in the coming days. The next session will include a detailed review of progress on all 27 directives.
The committee will also discuss the next steps and finalize the future course of action. The review comes as the government works to strengthen digital institutions in the public sector. It also aims to improve governance, accountability, and public service delivery through stronger oversight and reforms.
