The 38-kilometer Rawalpindi Ring Road has been completed but remains closed to traffic as work continues on toll plazas, weighing stations and other related facilities.
According to a senior divisional administration official, the road section from Baanth to Thalian is ready, while some minor works, including retaining walls, ramps and greenbelts, are still pending. The Punjab Ring Road Authority is expected to complete the toll plazas and install a computerized toll collection system.
Tolls will be collected from public transport, goods vehicles and private vehicles, with rates expected to be similar to those charged on Lahore’s Ring Road.
Rawalpindi Commissioner Salman Ghani has directed officials to complete the remaining work on a priority basis and ensure timely procurement of equipment for toll operations. He also ordered improvements to road signage and preparations for the proposed Rs. 5 billion Thalian interchange.
The Ring Road includes five interchanges and an industrial zone. The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) is executing the project, while the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) is serving as the contractor.
