Apple is adding a new color option for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus. Starting from today, customers can now purchase a red variant of the popular smartphone.
Reason behind the new color choice
This new red variant of Apple’s iPhone is a result of its partnership with RED, the non-profit AIDS organization. This partnership with RED involves highlighting the organization’s AIDS fundraising campaign with red-themed products and apps. Apple has also turned the App Store red in acknowledgment of world AIDS day.
Speaking about this partnership and the new iPhone variant, CEO Tim Cook said:
“The introduction of this special edition iPhone in a gorgeous red finish is our biggest (PRODUCT) RED offering to date in celebration of our partnership with (RED), and we can’t wait to get it into customers’ hands.”
Availability
Users looking to buy the RED iPhone will be able to order it from 24th March. Starting at $749, it will be available in 128 GB and 256 GB storage options. The special edition is $100 expensive than its normal variants.
A cheaper iPad
Along with this new color option, Apple also announced a cheaper version of iPad. Starting at $329, the newer iPad will offer last year’s A9 processor along with 32 GB internal storage. It isn’t as feature rich as iPad pro, but it should be enough for average daily use.
