Passport offices in eight major cities will now remain open until midnight, following directions from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to extend service hours and ease the burden on applicants.
The regional offices in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan, Bahawalpur, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, and Quetta have shifted to a two-shift schedule running from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m., with immediate effect.
The extended timings are meant to give citizens more flexibility in accessing passport services and are expected to shorten the long queues and waiting periods that have become common at these facilities.
Officials said the change reflects an effort to make the process more convenient for applicants who may otherwise struggle to visit during standard working hours.
The decision was finalised at a meeting chaired by Director General of Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa, where zonal heads and senior officials discussed service delivery standards, public facilitation measures, and broader policy matters affecting regional passport offices.
Randhawa told the meeting that delivering efficient and citizen friendly passport services remained the departments foremost priority, adding that the extended hours were part of a wider push to modernise operations and improve the overall experience for the public.
