Huawei has finally confirmed the chipset inside its new MatePad Pro Max tablet. The company introduced the device earlier this month, but it skipped one important detail at launch. Now, during a HarmonyOS conference in China, Huawei revealed that the tablet runs on the Kirin T93 Pro chipset. The company did not share more details about the processor. Still, the announcement stands out because Huawei has stayed quiet about its chipsets for years.
Since the US sanctions began seven years ago, Huawei has often avoided naming the exact processors inside its devices. As a result, many users stopped expecting full transparency from the company.
Soon after the announcement, a Chinese source on Weibo started discussing the new chip. Some believe the Kirin T93 Pro could be a version of the Kirin 9030 Pro without mobile data support.
The Kirin 9030 Pro already powers Huawei’s flagship devices. These include the Mate 80 Pro Max, Mate 80 RS Ultimate, and Mate X7. Because of this, the MatePad Pro Max could deliver strong flagship-level performance as well.
Huawei also shared performance claims during the conference. According to the company, the MatePad Pro Max offers a 45% boost in overall system performance. However, Huawei did not explain what device or version it compared the tablet against.
The company said the improvement comes from several factors. These include the Kirin T93 Pro chipset, an upgraded heat dissipation system, HarmonyOS 6, and the wider HarmonyOS ecosystem.
Huawei did not explain how the ecosystem directly improves performance. Even so, the company appears confident that software and hardware integration will play a major role in the tablet’s user experience.
