Meta has quietly launched a new standalone app called “Forum,” giving Facebook Groups their own dedicated space outside the main Facebook app. The new app first appeared without an official announcement. Social media consultant Matt Navarra spotted the listing on the App Store. Meta describes Forum as “a dedicated space for the conversations that matter most to you.” The app focuses on the groups users already follow while also helping them discover new communities.
Unlike Facebook’s main feed, Forum only shows content from Groups. It does not mix in posts from friends, Pages, or random recommendations. Instead, the app centers on discussions from communities that users actively care about.
When people sign in for the first time, Forum asks what type of content they want to see more often. Because of this, the app can recommend posts from other groups that match their interests. In addition, anything users post through the forum also appears inside the main Facebook app. The same works in reverse.
To access the Forum, users must log in with an existing Facebook account. The app also supports anonymized usernames for public activity. This feature already exists on Facebook. However, group admins can still view the real identity behind those accounts.
Meta has also added two AI-powered features to Forum. The first tool, called “Ask,” collects answers from different groups at once. As a result, users do not need to search through multiple communities separately. The second AI feature helps moderators handle management and administrative tasks inside groups.
This is not the first time Meta has explored a standalone Groups platform. Years ago, the company released a separate Facebook Groups app before shutting it down in 2017. Forum has already drawn comparisons to Reddit because of its focus on niche discussions, community-driven recommendations, and question-and-answer conversations. The app is now available on the App Store.
