The National Assembly Standing Committee on Industries and Production, chaired by Syed Hafeezuddin, expressed serious concern over the continued non-appearance of the Chief Executive Officer of K-Electric during its meeting held on Tuesday.
The Committee reiterated its earlier recommendations and reviewed several pending issues, including a detailed report on electricity tariffs and recovery of dues from Pakistan Steel Mills residents following the closure of the Pakistan Steel Mills.
During the meeting, the Committee also sought updates on its previous recommendation regarding outstanding payments to customers of Proton Car Company. Company representatives informed the Committee that out of a total of 864 affected customers, payments have been resolved for 816 customers, amounting to approximately Rs. 1.1 billion out of Rs. 1.18 billion, claiming that around 93 percent of the dues have been refunded.
The representatives further stated that the remaining 48 customers are being contacted to settle their outstanding claims at the earliest.
The Committee appreciated the company’s efforts in refunding the majority of customer payments.
In another briefing, members of the Committee discussed the electric vehicle (EV) policy and noted that a subsidy of Rs. 80,000 per electric bike unit is currently being provided nationwide. In response, the Committee constituted a sub-committee under the convenorship of Dr. Mahreen Razza Bhutto, MNA, to examine the subsidy structure offered to manufacturers and companies involved in the electric bike sector.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Sajid Mehdi, Dr. Mahesh Kumar Malani, Abdul Hakeem Baloch, Naz Baloch, Dr. Mahreen Razzaq Bhutto, Muhammad Iqbal Khan, along with the Secretary, Ministry of Industries and Production, and senior officials of relevant departments.
