Pakistan Railways has temporarily suspended the Jaffar Express service operating between Quetta and Peshawar for two days due to security concerns, leading to significant disruption for passengers traveling between Balochistan and other parts of the country.
According to railway officials, the train scheduled to depart from Quetta will not operate during the suspension period. The returning service from Peshawar has also been halted and will stop at Jacobabad instead of completing its journey to Quetta.
The suspension has been imposed as a precautionary measure in response to the prevailing security situation in parts of Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan.
The disruption has also affected other rail operations in the province. Services such as the Bolan Mail and Chaman Passenger Train have experienced interruptions, further limiting travel options for commuters in the region.
Railway authorities have not yet announced a confirmed date for the full restoration of services. Officials stated that operations will resume only after a detailed security review and clearance from relevant agencies.
The Jaffar Express is considered one of Pakistan Railways’ most important long-distance trains, connecting Quetta with major cities including Jacobabad, Rohri, Multan, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar. It plays a vital role in linking Balochistan with the rest of the country and supports both passenger travel and regional connectivity.
Rail services in Balochistan have faced repeated disruptions in recent years due to security-related incidents and attacks on railway infrastructure.
Following the high-profile 2025 Jaffar Express hijacking and other attacks on rail facilities, authorities have increased security measures across the railway network, including route monitoring and operational suspensions in sensitive areas when necessary.
The latest suspension underscores ongoing challenges in maintaining uninterrupted rail connectivity in security-sensitive regions, particularly on long-distance interprovincial routes.
