The Punjab government has approved the One Map Punjab initiative, a Rs14,660 million digital platform designed to integrate all provincial mapping and geospatial data in one place.
The project will digitise land records, infrastructure data, and public sector development projects, improving planning, coordination, and transparency across government departments.
The provincial capital will serve as the pilot city for the initiative before authorities expand the platform to cover all districts across the entire province.
Under the new system, all government assets and projects will be digitally mapped, eliminating duplication and improving coordination among departments handling overlapping infrastructure and development work.
Automated analysis tools embedded in the platform will identify conflicts in utility lines and development works, reducing costly errors caused by poor inter-departmental communication and planning.
A dedicated decision support system will be developed to assist policymakers with resource allocation, using real-time geospatial data to guide planning decisions at the provincial level.
The Punjab Information Technology Board will execute the project, while the Planning and Development Department will serve as the sponsoring agency overseeing implementation and accountability.
The plan includes hiring a 36-member expert team, with Rs537 million allocated for human resources and Rs324 million reserved for technical infrastructure and hosting requirements.
Planning forums have directed authorities to rationalise project expenses, including reducing laptop procurement and eliminating costs related to mobile allowances and unnecessary honorarium payments.
Authorities have also been instructed to implement strict security protocols for sensitive geographical data and to establish a sustainable revenue model ensuring the project’s long-term financial viability.
