Rs 5 Million Fine Imposed On Renowned Islamic School For Overcharging Fees

The Directorate of Private Institutions Sindh has fined Al-Fajr Academy Rs5 million for charging fees without permission and has ordered the school to return the extra money to parents.

Zohaib Yousufi filed a complaint against the institution, claiming that it had illegally increased tuition, required advance payments, and imposed arbitrary prices on various items and services, leading to punishment.

Al-Fajr Academy was also warned in a letter by Director Rafia Mallah. According to the letter, on November 27, 2024, a group of inspectors and monitors went to the school and found multiple ways that fees had been collected without authorization.

These infractions were validated by an investigation committee that was set up in accordance with Rule 18 of the Sindh Private Educational Institutions Rules 2005. After adding in the cost of supplies, field trips, books, and a “parent training fee,” the committee determined that the monthly tuition was Rs35,000, much higher than the permitted Rs28,150.
