In the conversation, Ramsha openly discussed the emotional struggle required to secure a high-paying tech job abroad. The candid interview sparked widespread discussions about career struggles, job market pressure, and the realities of lucrative overseas tech salaries.
Securing an overseas tech job is not easy. Ramsha stated her journey involved numerous applications, multiple interviews, and many tears. She described the job search as mentally exhausting because of the intense competition within the international tech industry.
Furthermore, she explained that the UK tech job market is highly concentrated in London. This contrasts directly with the US tech market, where opportunities are spread across multiple city hubs. Because the UK market is smaller and features fewer companies, securing a tech job there is much more difficult.
Salary, Perks & Work-Life Balance
Despite the initial struggles, the rewards are significant. Ramsha currently earns between £50,000 and £60,000 per year, which equals approximately $80,000. During the interview, she jokingly asked for prayers so that her salary would increase to 300,000. Meanwhile, Hamza earns a significantly higher salary, ranging anywhere between 350,000 and 600,000.
eBay is considered one of the best companies to work for because it offers an excellent work-life balance. Although UK employment contracts typically mandate a 40-hour workweek, employees practically work around 30 hours. UK tech firms generally report to US headquarters and tend to operate at a slower pace.
UK employees receive superior benefits compared to those in the US. These perks include free healthcare, ample paid leave, dental care, health insurance, and pensions. Maternity benefits in the UK include five months of fully paid leave and the option to take up to a full year off. Moreover, major tech company offices provide numerous free snacks and serve three to four free meals every day.
