Xiaomi officially ends support for these 6 devices

Xiaomi recently started rolling out MIUI 9 on its devices. MIUI is Xiaomi’s custom UI for their phones and it was announced back in July. The best thing about MIUI is that it is exactly same on all Xiaomi devices and you cannot tell which Android version a device is running unless you go to the settings and explicitly check it from about phone section. So no matter which Xiaomi phone you have, you’ll get the same UI experience from all devices.

Today, Xiaomi announced that it will be ending support for 6 of its devices and MIUI 9 will be the last major update for these devices. The 6 unsupported devices include:

  • Mi 4i
  • Mi 2/2S
  • Redmi Note 4G
  • Redmi 2
  • Redmi 2 Prime
  • Mi Note

Xiaomi is amazing when it comes to supporting their phones. Take MIUI 9 for example, Xiaomi released it for a total of 36 devices including 19 Mi and 17 Redmi series devices. It evens update some of its 5 years old phones. It looks like Xiaomi decides to upgrade its phone if it was sold in a good number and is used by a good amount of users. If a phone is not activated on enough number of devices, Xiaomi stops the support on that device. Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is one of the company’s most sold devices and I can say for sure that Xiaomi will keep supporting this device for several years to come.

MIUI 9 is now rolling out to most of the Xiaomi devices including the Redmi Note 4. All other 36 devices will get the update before the end of 2017. Here’s the list of devices supported by the upcoming MIUI 9.
