Fortnite officially begins downtime for patch v40.10 today, April 1, at 4:00 AM ET / 1:00 PM PKT. Consequently, Epic Games disables matchmaking 30 minutes earlier, at 3:30 AM ET / 12:30 PM. This prevents the system from kicking players out mid-game.
Chapter 7 Season 2, titled “Fortnite Showdown”, launched previously on March 19. Since then, players have picked sides between The Foundation and the Ice King. They earn points by eliminating assigned rivals from the opposite team. Now, players are ready for fresh content after wrapping up Act 1 milestones.
The biggest highlight of this update is the return of Chapter 1 Season 8 of Fortnite OG. Therefore, fans can expect a brand-new OG Pass. Furthermore, players will explore classic map changes and use weapons and mechanics unseen since the original 2019 launch.
Additionally, the popular Endgame LTM makes its comeback. Epic Games will make this mode available to players in a couple of days on April 3.
Finally, players anticipate the release of viral “brainrot” skins today. The Chapter 7 Season 2 trailer previously showed the Tung Tung Tung Sahur and Ballerina Cappucina outfits. Since today is April Fool’s Day, an Item Shop release for these silly meme skins makes perfect sense.

However, Epic Games has not confirmed the exact release date yet. Meanwhile, dataminers will search the game files during today’s downtime to uncover the official Item Shop dates.
