Apple is preparing a major display shift for its iPad Air lineup. According to a report from November last year, the company plans to move the Apple iPad Air to OLED screens in the coming years. A new update now suggests this upgrade will arrive in 2027.
Samsung Display is expected to supply the OLED panels for the upcoming iPad Air models. Industry sources say mass production could begin later this year or by early January 2027. This timeline points to a carefully planned transition in Apple’s tablet display strategy.
The next-generation iPad Air is also expected to use an LTPS OLED panel. Apple may launch the new model in March next year. This would match the launch window of the current M4-powered iPad Air.
At present, Apple only offers OLED screens on the iPad Pro. However, this is likely to change soon. Reports suggest the iPad mini may also get an OLED display later this year. In addition, Apple is said to be planning OLED panels for the MacBook Air in 2028.
Meanwhile, the latest M4 iPad Air, which arrived in March, still uses an LCD display. The shift to OLED would mark a clear upgrade in display quality for future models.
