Borderlands 4 players might already know the identity of the next Vault Hunter. Yesterday, a massive leak surfaced online. Reddit user jakobsestate datamined the game’s subtitles. Consequently, they discovered multiple references to an unannounced character named “Loveless”. This leak arrives shortly after Gearbox Software released the first story expansion, “Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned”.

Currently, fans remain divided over the recent DLC release. Many players criticized the steep $30 price tag for merely two to three hours of gameplay. However, the community heavily praised the new playable character, C4SH. Gearbox previously confirmed a second DLC and another Vault Hunter are in the works. Yet, the developer has shared no official details regarding the expansion.
Borderlands 4 Datamine Uncovers ‘Loveless’
Players initially brushed off a specific line of dialogue from the NPC Mancubus. In the first DLC, he remarks, “It seems you’ve suffered an unbounded recursion, eh, mistress Loveless.” Fans originally assumed Mancubus was speaking to the existing character, Vex. Now, the new datamine proves otherwise. The name Loveless appears alongside other Vault Hunter dialogue tags. Therefore, this clearly points to an upcoming playable character.
Hidden Subtitles Expose New Details
Furthermore, the dataminer found specific introduction lines. One unused subtitle directly mirrors the format of current Vault Hunters. It reads:
Yes! This is Loveless – We are a Vault Hunter.
For comparison, the existing character Rafa has a nearly identical line:
Yes! This is Rafa. I’m a Vault Hunter.
Additionally, another leaked line states
We are Loveless. I am looking for a woman named Ellie.
Although this dialogue mixes pronouns, it solidifies Loveless as a distinct entity.
Fan Theories Suggest a Hivemind
Interestingly, Loveless frequently uses the pronoun “we”. As a result, fans are already generating exciting theories. Some players suggest the character operates as a hivemind. Meanwhile, others speculate Loveless could be an Eridian Vault Hunter. Alternatively, the character might simply use the “royal we” as a status symbol. This choice would make them a wealthy, posh figure similar to Aurelia Hammerlock from “Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel”.
Ultimately, all these details remain fan speculation. Players must wait until Gearbox officially reveals the next Borderlands 4 expansion.
