Apple is approaching a major milestone, as the iPhone turns 20 in 2027. The first iPhone was introduced in January 2007 and reached stores in June of the same year. Since then, the device has shaped the smartphone industry. Now, fresh leaks suggest Apple may mark the occasion with a bold design shift.
A new report from the source on Weibo shares early details about the anniversary model. According to the leak, Apple is working closely with Samsung to develop a new display. The upcoming panel may remove the polarizer layer and use a quad-curved design. Apple is said to be customizing the curvature radius for a unique look.
This move signals a sharp change in direction. For years, Apple preferred flat displays across its iPhone lineup. In fact, many Android brands followed this approach. Now, Apple seems ready to revisit curved screens, a design that several Chinese smartphone makers explored earlier.
At the same time, the new display will bring modern improvements. Removing the polarizer could make the screen thinner and more efficient. However, this will not be the first smartphone to use such a panel. Other brands have already experimented with similar technology.
It is still unclear how far the display will extend over the edges. Earlier reports hinted at a full “all-screen” design. However, current display technology may not yet fully support that vision. More details are expected to surface as development continues.
