Samsung may soon expand its display supplier list for future Galaxy phones. A new report from Korea says Chinese display maker BOE wants to supply screens for Samsung’s upcoming Samsung Galaxy S27 series.
The report claims BOE became interested after seeing China Star Optoelectronics Technology secure a display supply deal for the Samsung Galaxy A57. CSOT, which operates under TCL, currently serves as Samsung’s second-largest display supplier for the Galaxy A57.
Right now, Samsung Display remains the main display supplier for the Galaxy A57 lineup. However, CSOT handles a smaller share of the orders. Because of that, Samsung Electronics is reportedly considering BOE as a secondary supplier for the Galaxy S27 series as well. Still, the company has not made a final decision.
If Samsung moves ahead with the plan, the company could lower production costs. Those extra savings may help Samsung deal with rising memory prices, which have increased in recent months.
The report also highlights another interesting point. At the group level, Samsung may hesitate to bring BOE into its premium smartphone supply chain. According to Korean media, such a move could weaken Samsung Display’s bargaining position with Apple.
Even so, Chinese display makers usually offer lower prices than Samsung Display. Therefore, Samsung Electronics may still consider BOE to reduce overall manufacturing costs for future flagship devices.
For now, Samsung has not confirmed any partnership with BOE for the Galaxy S27 series. More details will likely appear closer to the phone’s launch.
