Double Fine just surprised PlayStation fans. During the most recent Sony State of Play, the studio shadow-dropped its atmospheric adventure game, Keeper, on the PlayStation 5. Previously, the title remained an Xbox console and PC exclusive since its initial launch in October 2025. Now, the walking lighthouse finally steps onto a new platform.
Shining a Light on Keeper Gameplay & Pricing
Keeper is a puzzle adventure game. Players control a walking lighthouse. Therefore, you must rid a colorful world of a menacing blight. Specifically, players use the right analog stick to shine their light on the environment. This action clears infected areas, solves simple puzzles, and lets you interact with visually striking creatures.
Currently, Keeper retails for $19.99 on the US PlayStation Store. However, active PS Plus subscribers get a temporary discount. They can purchase the game for $15.99 until September 17.
Critics gave the game a generally strong reception last year. Over on OpenCritic, Keeper holds an 81 Top Critic Average and a 76% recommendation score. Meanwhile, GameRant rated the title 6/10. Their reviewer called it a “beautiful but flawed adventure” strictly due to its disappointingly simple puzzle gameplay.
Double Fine Survives Xbox Layoffs
This unexpected PS5 release follows massive corporate shake-ups. Back in early July, Xbox announced mass layoffs across all its departments. Consequently, Xbox severed ties with Double Fine altogether. Instead of just facing cuts and closing down, the studio announced its return to independence.
Furthermore, Double Fine successfully acquired the rights to its previously released IP. Unfortunately, the newly independent studio still suffered its own round of layoffs at the end of July.
Amnesia Fortnight 2026 Kickstarter Launches
Despite the recent turmoil, Double Fine is moving forward. The newly independent studio just launched a Kickstarter campaign called ‘Amnesia Fortnight 2026, Indie Reboot’. This campaign seeks funding for an upcoming game jam. According to the developers, this game jam is a studio tradition dating back to 2007. During this two-week event, the team pitches and creates various game prototypes. Previously, the best of these prototypes birthed full titles like ‘Costume Quest’, ‘Iron Brigade’, and ‘Stacking’.
Interestingly, this new Kickstarter gives backers real power. Contributors will choose the four games from the jam that the studio will turn into full experiences. Additionally, the campaign funds a documentary from 2 Player Productions. Finally, the developers included a tongue-in-cheek tease for the fans. They promised to start working on a ‘Brutal Legend’ sequel if the campaign hits a ridiculous $100 million stretch goal.
