Apple has updated its base 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac models with the new M6 processor. The upgrade brings faster hardware, improved wireless connectivity, and updated memory options.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro moves from the M5 chip introduced in 2025 to the M6. Meanwhile, the iMac skips the M5 generation, moving from the M4 introduced in 2024 directly to the M6.
The base 14-inch MacBook Pro features a 12-core CPU with a 2+4+6 layout and a 12-core GPU. Each GPU core includes a Neural Accelerator, while hardware-accelerated ray tracing is also supported. Apple has added a separate dual 16-core Neural Engine to both computers.
The MacBook Pro comes with 16GB of unified memory and supports upgrades to 24GB or 32GB. However, only the 24GB and 32GB configurations offer the full 170GB/s memory bandwidth. The base 16GB model is limited to 153GB/s. Storage starts at 1TB, with 2TB and 4TB options available.

Apple has also equipped the 14-inch MacBook Pro with its N1 wireless networking chip. This brings support for Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) and Bluetooth 6.
iMac Gets Two M6 Configurations
The updated iMac also features the M6 chip, but Apple offers two versions. The higher-end model uses the same fully enabled M6 processor found in the 14-inch MacBook Pro.
The base iMac, however, gets a reduced version with a 10-core CPU in a 2+3+5 configuration. It also features a 10-core GPU with Neural Accelerators and ray tracing support. Both iMac configurations include the dual 16-core Neural Engine.
Memory options differ between the two models. Both start with 16GB of unified memory, while the base model supports up to 24GB. The higher-end version offers 24GB or 32GB. Apple lists memory bandwidth at 170GB/s for the iMac, including the base 16GB configuration.

Storage starts at 256GB SSD on both iMac models. Buyers can upgrade to 512GB or 1TB, while the higher-end version also offers a 2TB option. Like the MacBook Pro, both iMac models include Apple’s N1 wireless chip.
Apple has also added an optional nano-texture display finish to the iMac. Aside from these changes, both computers remain largely unchanged from their predecessors.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1,999. The iMac starts at $1,499 for the 10-core model and $1,699 for the 12-core version. Preorders for both computers open tomorrow, October 28. Apple will begin selling the new MacBook Pro and iMac on Friday, November 6.
