Apple has released the first public beta of iOS 27, giving iPhone users early access to the company’s next major software update. The release comes after several developer-only beta versions. Alongside iOS 27, Apple also rolled out public betas for iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, macOS 27, and tvOS 27.
The stable versions of these updates are expected to arrive later this fall. However, users who want to try the new features early can now download the software through Apple’s Beta Software Program.
Apple has not changed device compatibility this year. Any iPhone that supports iOS 26 can also run iOS 27. This means the update is available for the iPhone 11 series and newer models, including the iPhone SE (2020) and later versions.
iOS 27 Brings Faster Performance and Improved Design
iOS 27 further refines Apple’s new Liquid Glass design language. The company says it has addressed several issues that users noticed in earlier versions.
Apple also promises major performance improvements. According to the company, app startup times are now 30% faster. The Photos app loads image libraries 70% faster, while AirDrop transfers have become 80% faster.
The update also improves network switching. Devices can now move more smoothly between Wi-Fi networks or switch from Wi-Fi to 5G connections with fewer interruptions.
Siri AI Takes Center Stage in iOS 27
The biggest addition in iOS 27 is the new Siri AI experience. Users can now ask questions in natural language, perform actions, and search their phones more easily. Apple has also introduced a dedicated Siri app. The new app provides quicker access to AI features and offers a more central place for Siri interactions.
However, some AI features may not be fully available in Europe. Apple continues to face regulatory challenges with the European Union, which could limit certain AI functions in the region.
Although Apple fixed many issues during developer testing, the company warns that the public beta may still contain bugs. Users who rely on their phones every day may want to wait for the final release later this year.
The update story is different for Mac users. Apple has ended support for Intel-powered Macs that previously ran macOS 26. Only Macs with Apple Silicon chips can install macOS 27.
Apple has also dropped support for several older iPads. iPadOS 27 is available for the iPad mini (2021) and newer models, the standard iPad (2021) and later, the iPad Air (2020) and newer, and the iPad Pro (2020) and later.
With the first public beta now available, Apple is giving users an early look at its next software generation, led by faster performance and a more capable Siri powered by artificial intelligence.
