Apple is preparing major software changes ahead of WWDC 2026, set to begin on June 8. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has shared early details about iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. The updates appear to focus heavily on AI-powered features and a redesigned Siri experience.
A key highlight is a new standalone Siri app. It is expected to work like a chatbot similar to ChatGPT and Claude. The app will act as a central hub for many tasks. It will also store past conversations for user reference. Reports suggest it will remain ad-free and may include auto-deleting chat options for privacy.
Apple’s approach to privacy continues to shape its AI plans. The company reportedly delayed its advanced assistant to better control user data. Apple is also focusing on processing sensitive information through its own servers.
The new Siri is said to use Apple Foundation Models. However, Google Gemini will reportedly handle more complex processing tasks. As a result, some advanced AI requests may rely on Google’s systems. This setup is designed to balance performance and security.
Meanwhile, iOS 27 is expected to introduce stronger system-wide writing tools. These tools will go beyond current Apple Intelligence features. Apple is testing a “Write With Siri” option placed at the top of the keyboard. It will offer grammar corrections and writing suggestions in real time.
Users will be able to accept or ignore changes while typing. They can also move between highlighted text suggestions. In addition, a “Help Me Write” feature is expected inside text fields activated by Siri.
Apple is also working on broader AI upgrades across the system. These include natural language shortcuts and AI-generated wallpapers. The Photos app may also gain new editing tools powered by AI. Shortcuts is expected to be redesigned as well. It may allow users to create actions using simple text prompts.
