Losing a game save is incredibly frustrating. However, losing a save in The Sims 4 feels significantly worse. Players can rarely replicate the exact spontaneous actions their Sims took over a lost period. If your game crashes or you forget to save, those unique historical moments simply vanish. Fortunately, Electronic Arts (EA) is finally addressing this issue. Nearly 12 years after the game’s initial release, the developers are bringing a highly requested automatic save feature to the popular simulator.
AutoSave & Memory Boost Coming to The Sims 4
EA recently unveiled its newest Laundry List. The developers confirmed that an AutoSave function is coming to the game on July 21. Once players enable this feature, the game will automatically create save points. These saves trigger when you change lots, hit specific milestones, or simply play for a set amount of time. Furthermore, players can fully customize these AutoSave intervals. If you prefer maintaining manual control, you can enable a customizable pop-up reminder instead. This alert will simply remind you to save your progress after a certain amount of time passes.
Meanwhile, the highly anticipated Memory Boost feature is leaving early access. It will roll out to all eligible players across PC, Mac, and consoles alongside the July 21 update. This feature actively improves how the game manages memory. As a result, players should experience less lag and fewer crashes. EA notes that gamers with massive households, heavily decorated lots, or extremely old save files will notice the most significant performance improvements.
Sim Autonomy & Future Updates
A 12-year wait for an AutoSave function certainly feels excessive to many fans. However, The Sims 4 is not the only older game moving at a slow pace. For instance, the multi-decade game Minecraft is just now adding the ability for characters to sit down after a 17-year wait.
Looking ahead, EA is already planning its next major Quality of Life (QoL) update for September. This upcoming patch will specifically tackle Sim autonomy. EA claims the update will make Sims behave more consistently and improve their overall responsiveness. The developers will reveal more specific details about this update in August or early September.
