Apple Expands Apple Tv App To Android Smartphones And Tablets

Apple has officially launched its Apple TV app for Android smartphones and tablets, expanding its reach beyond Apple devices and smart TVs. Starting today, Android users running Android 10 or later can download the Apple TV app from the Google Play Store, marking a long-overdue expansion for Apple’s streaming service.

Previously Android users could view Apple TV+ content on web browsers but the app functioned only through Apple devices and select smart TVs. This update allows Android users to access Apple TV+ originals and movies and MLS Season Pass streaming through their mobile devices for enhanced accessibility.

Content and Features of the Apple TV App on Android

The Apple TV app delivers a complete streaming interface for users of the Android operating system. Users accessing Apple TV+ can stream both original series like Ted Lasso and Severance as well as Slow Horses and The Morning Show and Shrinking and Loot while watching Apple Original films including Killers of the Flower Moon and CODA and Wolfs and The Family Plan.

The app offers users live sporting events that include Friday Night Baseball matches and MLS Season Pass events. Soccer fans can access the MLS Season Pass as an additional service through Apple TV+ by paying $12.99 per month or $79 per season. A new feature for 2025, Sunday Night Soccer, will also be available exclusively to Apple TV+ subscribers.

The Apple TV app on Android comes with several notable features, including:

  • Continue Watching: Allows users to pick up where they left off across devices.
  • Watchlist: Enables users to track and save content for later viewing.
  • Offline Viewing: The ability to download content and watch without an internet connection.
  • Seamless Streaming: Works over both Wi-Fi and cellular connections.

However, Android users cannot access the in-app store to buy or rent movies or shows through the Apple TV app platform.

Apple has been slow to extend its services to competing platforms, despite the fact that Apple TV+ was introduced over five years ago. The app’s global availability is still questionable, as reports suggest that it may still be restricted in certain regions, particularly in Europe.

A more refined viewing experience is now available to Apple TV+ subscribers on Android, thereby expanding the reach of Apple’s premium content to a broader audience. The Apple TV app is now accessible for installation on the Google Play Store for Android phones, tablets, and foldable devices.
