PlayStation fans might have a massive reason to celebrate this month. Recent rumors suggest a brand-new, unannounced mainline God of War game will be revealed in April.
Industry insider Tom Henderson recently sparked these discussions. During the April 10 episode of the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, Henderson stated he expects the next mainline title’s announcement this month. Consequently, fans are looking toward a potential PlayStation State of Play event.

According to another insider, NateTheHate, Sony might host an unconfirmed State of Play this Thursday, April 16. Therefore, this upcoming broadcast serves as the perfect stage for the highly anticipated reveal.
Updates on the God of War Remake & Prequel
Importantly, this rumored project is completely separate from the God of War Trilogy Remake. Sony confirmed the remake during the February 12 State of Play. Currently, that project remains in early development. Original Kratos voice actor Terrence “T.C.” Carson will reprise his role. However, players should not expect to see gameplay footage anytime soon.
Meanwhile, the franchise recently expanded with God of War: Sons of Sparta. Sony shadow-dropped this Metroidvania prequel immediately after the February 12 broadcast. The game explores young Kratos’s journey into a feared Spartan warrior. Despite mixed reviews, the title successfully secured a spot among the top 20 best-selling games in the US for February.
PlayStation’s Packed Spring Schedule
Sony clearly has a busy schedule ahead. If the April 16 State of Play happens, Insomniac Games might also showcase Marvel’s Wolverine. This PS5-exclusive superhero title launches on September 15, 2026. Developers previously promised more details this spring.
Furthermore, the God of War universe is expanding to television. Sony and Amazon are actively producing a live-action TV series based on the Norse saga. Full production began in February 2026. The studios have already shared a brief glimpse of Kratos and Atreus. However, a precise release window remains unannounced.
