Anthropic is in early talks with investors to raise at least $30 billion in fresh financing, as per some media reports. The Claude maker is discussing raising capital at a valuation exceeding $900 billion not including the investment. However, the round is expected to close as soon as the end of May with no term sheet signed yet.
The deal remains unfinalized and represents Anthropic’s largest funding round to date setting new artificial intelligence industry benchmarks. Anthropic reached $30 billion in annualized revenue earlier this month after generating roughly $10 billion last year. Consequently, the startup founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees has emerged as a leader in the sector.
OpenAI was most recently valued at $852 billion in a funding round completed in March according to sources. Anthropic’s potential $900 billion valuation would surpass OpenAI for the first time since both companies began competing. Furthermore, the company is exploring a potential initial public offering as early as October this year.
Google previously committed $10 billion to Anthropic at a $350 billion valuation matching terms from a February funding round. Alphabet could potentially provide an additional $30 billion if Anthropic reaches specific performance targets according to agreement terms. Meanwhile, Amazon invested $5 billion in Anthropic at a $350 billion valuation with plans to inject $20 billion more over time.
The capital push comes as Anthropic needs to secure massive computing power to meet growing product demand. Anthropic recently unveiled Claude Mythos Preview with advanced cybersecurity capabilities sparking high-profile meetings between Trump administration members and tech executives.
