Wispr Flow is expanding aggressively in India despite voice AI facing significant challenges in the market. The Bay Area startup builds AI software letting users dictate text across applications and now calls India its fastest-growing market. However, India accounted for 14% of global installs but only 2% of in-app purchase revenue between October 2025 and April 2026.
Data shared with TechCrunch from Sensor Tower shows Wispr Flow was downloaded 2.5 million times globally during the period. India became the second-largest market by downloads after the United States according to the statistics. Meanwhile, the revenue gap reflects both India’s lower spending power and the startup’s evolving monetization strategy in the market.
Wispr Flow began beta testing a Hinglish voice model earlier this year targeting the hybrid Hindi-English blend millions use daily. The startup launched on Android after initially debuting on Mac and Windows before expanding to iOS in 2025. Consequently, growth accelerated to around 100% month-over-month after India-focused marketing campaigns including offline events in Bengaluru.
Neil Shah, vice president at Counterpoint Research, described India as “the ultimate stress test for voice AI” citing linguistic and accent friction. Usage patterns differ significantly with India showing 50-50 desktop-mobile split compared to 80-20 desktop-heavy mix in the United States. Furthermore, Wispr Flow introduced India-specific pricing at Rs320 monthly for annual plans significantly lower than standard $12 global pricing.
The startup plans broader multilingual voice support, local hiring, and eventually Rs10-20 monthly pricing to reach beyond white-collar professionals.
