Google has introduced a new Quick Share feature on Android that makes file sharing with iPhones much easier. The update lets Android users send files to iOS devices through a QR code. The feature offers a simple option for users who still do not have AirDrop-style compatibility in Quick Share. Instead of using complicated steps, iPhone users can simply scan a QR code to receive files from an Android phone.
Google announced the feature during The Android Show: I/O Edition earlier this week. Once the iPhone user scans the QR code with the Camera app, the selected files upload securely to the cloud. After that, the recipient receives a private download link to access the files.
Google says the transferred files stay protected with end-to-end encryption during the process. The company also confirmed that files will remain available for download for up to 24 hours. In addition, Google noted that the private download link cannot be shared with other users.
The company plans to roll out QR code-based file sharing between Android and iOS devices to all users by the end of June.
