Samsung may shake up its foldable lineup with a new naming strategy next year. A fresh report from the source on Weibo claims the company plans to rename its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold models. The change appears linked to a new foldable device that many leaks previously called the “Galaxy Z Fold Wide.” Reports suggest Samsung wants this model to compete with wider foldables from other Android brands and Apple’s rumored iPhone Ultra.
However, the device may not launch with the “Wide” branding. Instead, Samsung could market it as the “Galaxy Z Fold8.” Meanwhile, the current main Fold series may move into the Ultra category. According to the leak, the successor to the Galaxy Z Fold7 will reportedly arrive as the “Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra.”
The new naming strategy hints at a major shift in Samsung’s foldable lineup. The standard Galaxy Z Fold8 could focus on a wider design and a more mainstream experience. On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra may target premium users with stronger hardware and flagship features.
Leaks already suggest the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra could bring several upgrades over the Galaxy Z Fold7. The device may feature a larger 5,000 mAh battery and an improved triple-camera system.
Samsung is also expected to launch the Galaxy Z Flip8 alongside both Fold models. Reports indicate all three foldables may debut in July. That timeline matches Samsung’s usual schedule for its second Galaxy Unpacked event each year.
