Mojang recently published a new developer blog for Minecraft. The video, playfully titled “SIT DOWN! NEW FEATURES INCOMING!”, highlighted the game’s next major drop. Surprisingly, the developers announced a feature fans have requested for almost two decades. Minecraft is officially adding the ability to sit down.

Players first explored Minecraft during its early alpha build in May 2009. Ever since that basic version, fans have actively asked for a way to make their characters sit. Over the last 17 years, players relied heavily on makeshift solutions. They downloaded custom mods or wedged minecarts and boats into small, seat-like structures. Sometimes, they even trapped mountable animals to create fake chairs. Fortunately, these clumsy workarounds will soon end.
Minecraft to Introduce the New Cushion Item
Mojang solves this long-standing problem with a brand-new craftable item. The upcoming update introduces the Cushion. Players can easily craft a Cushion by placing three Wool Slabs in a horizontal line. Notably, Wool Slabs are also a brand-new block arriving in this game drop.
Once crafted, players simply place the Cushion on a flat surface and click it to make their character sit down. Additionally, Mojang confirmed that the Cushion will launch in 16 different colors. This variety gives builders plenty of fresh customization options for their bases.
New Biomes, Blocks & Release Timeline
The upcoming game drop brings much more than just seating. Mojang revealed a brand-new biome called the Dappled Forest. Alongside this biome, the developers are introducing a new Abandoned Camp Point of Interest (POI). This new POI will generate naturally in both the Dappled Forest and older existing biomes.
Moreover, players can expect several new building materials. The update will feature a new Poplar Wood block set, Shelf Mushrooms, and Wool Stairs.
Another major survival addition is the Straw Bed. Players can craft this item by placing three Hay Bales horizontally. The Straw Bed lets you quickly skip the night without resetting your permanent spawn point. However, this convenience comes at a cost, as the Straw Bed breaks completely after just one use.
Mojang officially launches this massive game drop in Q3 2026. Meanwhile, eager fans do not have to wait for the final release. You can try the new sit down feature and other items today through the Java Snapshot, Bedrock Beta, or Preview versions of Minecraft.
