Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6 continues to generate massive hype across the gaming industry. Recently, a Rockstar Games executive revealed a highly immersive mechanic that did not make the final cut. The development team actually removed a mandatory grocery shopping feature from GTA 6. They believed it pushed the life simulation boundaries a little too far.
Rob Nelson, the co-studio head of Rockstar North, shared this specific detail. He recently hosted an exclusive three-hour, in-person gameplay preview. Select content creators and media outlets attended this event. During the showcase, Nelson played the game and answered various questions regarding its development.
Why Rockstar Canceled the Grocery Run in GTA 6
Australian YouTuber TGG, also known as The Gaming Gorilla, attended the exclusive preview. He subsequently shared insights about the removed mechanic. According to TGG, Nelson confirmed that players originally had to buy groceries just to get by.

However, the developers ultimately scrapped this strict requirement. They realized that forcing players to shop for food made the gameplay feel too much like a tedious life simulator. Therefore, they decided to pull back and change how the system works.
Snacks, Stat Boosts & Gym Memberships
Fortunately, you can still buy groceries in the game. Rockstar simply changed the feature into an optional activity. TGG noted that he watched the protagonist, Jason, buy beers and snacks during the live preview.
Furthermore, buying these consumables directly impacts your gameplay. For instance, players can eat protein bars to boost their stats before a workout. Consequently, this helps the characters build muscle much faster.
In addition to eating right, players can put in the physical work. TGG revealed another incredibly realistic detail. He stated:
If anyone ever asks you how in-depth GTA 6 is, just tell them you buy a membership at a gym.
Extreme Interactivity in Leonida
Another content creator, El Rubius, also witnessed the raw gameplay. He highlighted the incredible level of domestic interactivity. According to El Rubius, players can interact with almost everything inside their safehouses. You can open the fridge, grab a quick snack, turn the lights on and off, or simply sit down and watch TV.
Ultimately, the state of Leonida promises an action-packed, highly reactive world. The game environment will actively acknowledge and respond to the decisions made by Jason and Lucia. Even without mandatory grocery runs, GTA 6 clearly aims to rival the most extensive life simulation games on the market.
