Playstack admitted that this overwhelming demand exceeded its expectations. Target, Best Buy, and Amazon currently show the game as completely out of stock. Meanwhile, GameStop still accepts orders. Scalpers and eager fans will likely drain that remaining supply very soon.
Mortal Shell 2 serves as a standalone sequel. Therefore, new players can easily jump in without playing the first game. The original title performed exceptionally well and sold over a million copies. Currently, Playstack is meeting with its distribution partner to discuss a potential second wave of physical copies. However, the publisher warned fans that a restock is not guaranteed. Sony’s All-Digital Future Sparks Protest
This buying frenzy directly follows a highly controversial announcement from Sony. Starting in 2028, PlayStation will transition to an entirely all-digital platform. Sony will permanently stop producing physical discs for any new games released after that year.
