OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT’s role in personal finance. The company has introduced a new feature that lets users connect their bank accounts and track their finances directly inside the chatbot. The feature is now available for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the United States. It works through a partnership with Plaid, a financial connection platform that supports more than 12,000 financial institutions.
After linking their accounts, users can view a complete financial dashboard inside ChatGPT. The dashboard shows portfolio performance, spending habits, active subscriptions, and upcoming payments. Users can also ask ChatGPT questions about saving money, budgeting, or spending patterns based on their real financial data.
For example, users can ask where they spent the most money last month or how much they could save by cutting subscriptions. Since ChatGPT has access to connected account data, it can provide more personalized answers.
OpenAI says users remain in control of their financial information. People can manage or remove connected accounts whenever they want. They can also review and delete financial memories stored by the chatbot.
To access the feature, users need to open the Finances section from the ChatGPT sidebar. Right now, the rollout covers the web version and the iOS app for ChatGPT Pro users in the US.
According to OpenAI, more than 200 million users already ask ChatGPT financial questions every month. With direct account integration, the company aims to make those answers more useful and personalized. However, the update also gives the AI platform access to a much larger amount of financial data from users who choose to connect their accounts.
