The US State Department has launched a new online portal that allows the public to report suspected visa fraud, misuse and fraudulent travel schemes.
According to the department, the platform provides a convenient way for people to submit information about suspected fraudulent visa applications and other forms of misuse for review and possible action by authorities.
The State Department said public tips have helped identify thousands of visa fraud cases. Its Bureau of Consular Affairs has also increased efforts to detect and prevent fraudulent attempts to enter the United States.
The department said visa fraud may involve fake documents or travel plans, sham marriages arranged through brokers, shell companies, fabricated job offers and birth tourism.
It warned that such activities can defraud the US government, affect communities and workers, and create national security and public safety risks. Individuals found violating US visa laws may face visa revocation and referral to law enforcement agencies.
The State Department has urged the public to use the new reporting portal to provide information about suspected visa fraud or other misuse of the US visa system.
