New Custom Tariffs On Iphone Announced In Pakistan

In a move that will impact smartphone buyers across the country, the Directorate General of Customs Valuation, Karachi, has announced revised customs tariffs on the import of Apple iPhones, including the latest iPhone 16 lineup.

The decision, issued under Valuation Ruling No. 1909 of 2025, updates import duties for 187 different iPhone models, including newly launched and older devices. The outdated tariff system necessitated an update in response to requests from importers and customs authorities to modernise rates that were inconsistent with current international market values.

After conducting a four-month analysis that encompassed import statistics, market patterns, and declared value declarations, the government implemented new tariffs.  The most recent declaration regulates customs duties for iPhone 16 series models and increases depreciation rates for iPhone 11 to 15 versions.

Why the Revision?

The previous valuation, over a year old, failed to reflect the depreciation of older models and the pricing of the latest iPhones. The present ruling required re-examination through requests submitted by Customs Islamabad officials and various stakeholders.  The final rates were released as a consequence of the Directorate’s initiative to conduct numerous consultative meetings and data analyses.

The new customs tariffs necessitate that customers anticipate price adjustments for imported iPhones in the local market, particularly for grey-market and personally imported devices.  The ultimate retail cost will be higher for customers due to the addition of tax increments, shipping charges, and marketer margins.

Importers, on the other hand, now have a clear benchmark for valuation, reducing ambiguity during customs clearance.
